THERE IS A SUMMER FAIR AND SPORTS DAY TO BE HELD ON MARGROVE PARK VILLAGE GREEN ON SATURDAY 28^TH AUGUST FROM 11.00AM – 4.00PM ACTIVITIES TO INCLUDE ROUNDABOUTS, BOUNCY CASTLES, BUCKING BRONCO, FIRE ENGINE, FOOTBALL COACHING, OBSTICAL RACE, CHILDRENS AND ADULT FUN SPORTS RACES, FACE PAINTING, TOMBOLA AND RAFFLE.
 OUR MP TOM BLENKINSOP WILL PRESENT THE PRIZES.

Brand new Foodie Friends welcome in July

Thanks to the Market’s brand new links with North East England Farmer’s Markets (NEEFM), an annual subscription of £10 will see Saltburn Market Friends receive a quarterly newsletter about seasonal foods and foodie events throughout the North-East – plus VIP invitations to visit local farmers and producers to see how their food is made. Lorna Jackson of Market organisers Foodfirst, said: “Groundbreaking TV chefs like Rick Stein, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall and Jamie Oliver have all helped bring about a huge jump in the numbers of people who care about where their food comes from, and who are keen to actively support their local food producers, so the Friends Scheme is a fantastic way of meeting like-minded people, finding out more about Farmers’ Markets throughout the North-East as well as Saltburn, and even becoming involved to help develop the market in the future.”

Saltburn’s bustling Farmers’ Market has proved a huge hit since launching in Easter 2008, and now regularly attracts over 3,500* people to the popular seaside town for its eagerly anticipated monthly events.
 
Now that the brand new Sainsbury’s store and car-park has put an extra spring back into the town, market organisers are expecting a further jump in the number of shoppers for Saltburn’s ever-popular mix of locally produced organic meat, game, fish, cheese, fruit & vegetables, wine, pies, cakes and artworks.
 
Veronica Boland of Saltburn Allotments Association said: “We have over 100 allotments here, so the Market is a great place to bring what we grow directly to the public every month – and all the proceeds from our stall go directly towards keeping the allotments in ship-shape condition.
 
“Everything we sell is grown on our allotments just a few minutes walk from the Market itself. It doesn’t get fresher than that.”

The “If there is violence, break the silence” initiative will be taken to pubs and clubs across the Borough as part of a hard-hitting drive to cut numbers of offences and raise awareness of support available to victims.

The campaign has been launched by the Redcar & Cleveland Domestic & Sexual Violence Reduction Strategic Partnership (D&SVRSP).

And, to tie in with Cleveland Polices recently launched Operation Harmony, it will see staff from Eva Women’s Aid join officers in talking to revellers in Redcar town centre on Friday and Saturday nights.

Campaign posters, beer mats, stickers and leaflets will be displayed in local venues highlighting the authorities’ determination to bring offenders to justice and offer support and advice to sufferers.

The campaign launch has coincided with the World Cup, following previous rises in violence particularly alcohol-related – during major sporting events.

Two women are killed each week by a male partner or ex-partner and 47,000 are raped every year, while domestic and sexual violence also affects same sex relationships.

Helen McLuckie, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Social Wellbeing said: “The under-reporting of incidents of domestic and sexual violence continues to be a major problem and, with statistics linking big sporting occasions to increases in offences, this campaign is timely.

“The important message that such crimes should not be tolerated will be taken out to pubs and clubs, and we hope that this high-profile approach will pay dividends.”

Saltburn Farmers’ Market ‘World Cup Special’ will take place in Saltburn Portico, near Saltburn Railway Station, between 9am-3pm on Saturday June 12th 2010.

Market bags footballing flavour

Saltburn’s bustling Farmers’ Market is bringing out the bunting for a World Cup Special this Saturday. (12 June).
And, inspired by England kicking-off their World Cup campaign against the USA on the same day, stallholders have created a clutch of brand new World Cup treats. 

Market co-ordinator Lorna Jackson said: “Saltburn Farmers Market has a real community ethos – a day for everyone to get into the spirit of things – and what’s better at bringing people together than England having a fantastic World Cup?  

Standing alongside the Market’s ever-popular mix of organic meat, game, fish, cheese, organic fruit & vegetables, wine, pies, cakes and craft works, Lorna highlighted some of the stallholders’ special World Cup wonders. 

Fancy Fudge love Peter Crouch – let’s face it, he scores goals for fun – and have created ‘Crouch’ s Cranberry Fudge,’ a tall fancy white chocolate fudge, with a cranberry topping forming the cross of St George.  .   

Real Meals are going straight to the top with a Fabio Capello World Cup Pie. That’s a Veal & Ham Pie to you and me – a tradition amongst Italians – and definitely something to munch your way through while watching the match.  

Cottage Cakes are making a special ‘Rooney’s Raspberry Tart,’ and Ledston Game have come up with a gorgeous Game & Chilli Sausage – definitely one for the bbq!  

“And, if we’re looking at the cup itself, Saltburn based Dragonfly Bakery have come up with a top bunch of World Cup cupcakes – a bag of your ‘favourite four’ cup cakes tied in World Cup ribbons. 

“Basically, we reckon the more you eat, the better chance England have of winning. Call it a good luck charm,.

“As ever, we’ll have a great family atmosphere, and we’re looking forward to another fantastic day. So hop on the train to Saltburn and join the fun.”
