Boots or stout shoes map and compass essential.

From the start follow the road East towards Rosedale for 1 Mile. On the way you will pass Fat Betty on your left hand side.
Say Hello as you will see her again on your way back in. Look out for a Public Footpath sign on the left hand side of the road

.At the signpost take the footpath heading N.E. to meet the tarmac road and turn left.
After 500yds you will come to a gate on the right hand side of the road and a broad track heading east.

Follow this track and soon you will pass Trough House, which is a reminder of the old stone quarrying days in this area. Keep on this track.

Go straight past the insignificant looking signpost at until you once again reach a tarmac road.

Do not go onto the road. Take the very narrow track through the heather heading in a N.Westerly direction until you reach a small gate.
Go through the gate. The track goes steeply downhill to the bottom of Fryup Dale.
Take great care on the first section after the gate, as the path is wet and strewn with rock.
The path to the second gate is hard to follow in places but looking down you will see a track between two walls that will lead you down to the road.

At the road turn right to the junction where you turn left and follow the road up past Wood End Farm.
You are now approximately at the half way point. Carry on along the road towards Slidney Park Farm.
Immediately after crossing the beck you will see a Public Footpath sign and a stone stile built into the wall on your left

Cross the stile and the field, keeping to the hedge on the left to a gate. Go through the gate up to at Wood Head Farm.

At the track junction turn left and follow the bridleway in a S. Westerly direction.
Go through two gates then turn left uphill to a gap in the wall, The path here goes steeply uphill and is hard to follow in places.
TAKE CARE. The path eventually levels out and leads to the road. Turn left to the signpost visible on the opposite side of the road.

.
Follow the road down hill to the junction sign posted Honey Bee Nest.
Turn right and follow the narrow path through the heather downhill
Be very careful on this descent, as the path is very steep, wet and in places hard to follow.

Turn left and continue past at Honey Bee Nest Farm

Go past the farm into a field and proceed steeply uphill to the corner of the wood. Follow the path through the heather to the road.

At the signpost you can either follow the road back to the start or follow the track alongside the
white-topped boundary posts and say Hello again to Fat Betty. Turn right back to the start.

Start – GR 584-152
From the start follow the track East to the first path on the right Waypoint (W/P) 1 GR 586-151.

Go through the gate and up the steep steps to the forest track. Turn right and follow the track to the barrier W/P 2 GR 585-553.

Turn left at the minor road and proceed uphill to W/P 3 GR 585-143 at Bousdale Farm.

Turn left at the minor road and proceed uphill to W/P 3 GR 585-143 at Bousdale Farm.

Turn left and head for the small gate ahead W/P 5 GR 586-132. Go through the gate onto the track and turn right. Roseberry Topping is once again directly ahead. At the second gate take the right hand path and walk up to the small bridleway sign. Here you have the choice of going straight on and climbing up to Roseberry’s imposing summit (well worth the effort) or turning right and following the path which skirts around the lower slopes into the woods and to the gate at the top of a narrow lane

W/P 6 GR 574-127. If you have climbed to the summit then take the path heading South West down to the woods and to W/P 6. Take great care descending from the summit, as the path is narrow and slippy in places. Carry on straight down the lane to the road. The car park on the left is a good place to stop for a break or the Kings Head public house is 150 yards along the road to the right.

At the road turn right for 250 yards and cross the road to W/P 7 GR 570-131. Care is needed crossing as this is a busy main road. Follow the narrow road around the back of the houses and past the church. Bear left past the church and then right heading for Snow Hall Farm. At the farm follow the track around the back of the house, ignore the footpath sign pointing right at the duck pond, to the large barn where you turn right to a gate. Pass through the gate and carefully follow the obvious paths around several field boundaries to W/P 8 GR 567-142. This W/P can easily be missed, as it is about half way down the field so be careful.

Carry on along the field edge to a gap in the hedge where you cross into the field on your right and straight on to W/P 9 GR 568-144.

Turn left for 300 yards to W/P 10 GR 565-145 and bear right. Head for W/P 11 GR 565 150 where you cross the stile onto the dis-used railway track. If you turn to face Roseberry at this point you can almost trace the whole of your walk and give yourself a pat on the back for doing so well.
