St Aidens Church Boosbeck.
St Aidan’s Church was built in 1900 of stone, of the 12th Century style, with chancel, nave, transept, west porch with turret. It is the main church for the parish of Boosbeck and Lingdale, its partner church being St Chads at Lingdale. The parish is part of a plurality with the parish of Skelton w. Upleatham.
The church building stands alone on high ground to the north east of the former ironstone mining village of Boosbeck. The building remains in the form in which it was consecrated in 1901, although the surrounding churchyard is now closed and has been passed to the Local Authority. Building work has recently started to provide more modern facilities including a disabled toilet and a small kitchen/meeting area.
When the mining village was being built, Mr J. T. Wharton of Skelton Castle donated land for a parish church, and St Aidan’s was dedicated in 1901. Until then the area had been part of the ecclesiastical parish of Skelton.
According to the diary written by Mr William Rowbottom a miner living in Boosbeck. The first person to be buried in the grounds was a Mrs Harriet Kitching on November 19th 1901.
The first wedding took place on February 2nd 1902
